What's Aura ?

A while back Google encouraged developers to make use of their API. Many people built applications around the API, but alas Google has stopped issuing API keys. This means that those applications (like wikto / etc) lost large portions of their functionality.

SensePost AURA (Api Usable / Re-usable Again) will help to get those tools working again.

Aura is a very simple web app that runs as an executable on your windows machine and listens on 127.0.0.1:80.

Configuration is simple - just create a host entry for api.google.com pointing to 127.0.0.1 in your hosts file (generally %SYSTEMROOT%\drivers\etc\hosts) and all API requests made by applications will now be intercepted and served by Aura. Aura will then return results in the same schema as the API.

Limitations

Aura currently only supports the doGoogleSearch API function call as this is what we use in our tools.
Aura will only respond to valid Google API requests, as although it emulates an HTTP server, it's only been written to respond to Google queries.
The HTTP component is single threaded - meaning querying it from a dozen different applications at once is probably not going to work. Since it's been designed to listen on the localhost only, we doubt that this is going to be a problem...
